Jameson was born in 1780 by distiller John Jameson, who created his triple-distilled, smooth and perfectly balanced Irish whiskey. In the early 19th century, Jameson became the second largest whiskey producer in Ireland, but two events struck the distillery in the early 20th century – the declaration of Prohibition in the US and Irish independence, which restricted exports to the British Empire. Jameson was one of four distilleries to survive this crisis and subsequently merged to form the Irish Distillers Group in 1966. Today, Jameson is the world’s best-selling and most highly regarded Irish whiskey.
