Marie Čtveráčková alias Mary C is a musician, curator, lecturer and music journalist. She worked as an editor at Čro Radio Wave and prepared the music programme Scena s Mary C. She is the co-founder of the collective ZVUK and Synth Library Prague, a space for sharing, creating, discussing and experimenting in the field of electronic music and sound. Together with composer and producer Martin Hůla, under the name Kreaton, they have been organizing music workshops and lectures for children and adults for more than 6 years, aimed at popularizing new ways of listening and music making as well as the possibilities of music technology. As a curator of music-educational events, she has collaborated with the Goethe-Institut on the Music Ports series, with Akropolis Palace on the No One Future festival, with MeetFactory and the SHAPE platform on the international educational meeting Synapse, and with the Lunchmeat Festival on the Collective Affairs Symposium. Within Synth Library Prague, she formed a collective of women musicians called Trigger, which also published a magazine of the same name. In her activities she deals with the socio-economic context of sound and music, accessibility and breaking down stereotypes in the music scene and in the field of music technology. She has given guest lectures and workshops at Charles University, the Heroines of Sounds festival in Berlin, Construction in Dnipro, Ment in Ljubljana, Electric Spring in Vienna and Nuits Sonores in Lyon.
She is a member of the new Eastern European music scene network eastfloc sound. With Synth Library she joined the Feminist Institutions Collective and also the Ungrowth in Culture Working Group, which formulated an open letter on sustainability in culture and the arts to the Minister of Culture in spring 2022.
As a DJ and music journalist, her main focus is on African American music and its social context. In collaboration with the Anxiety Institute, she created the 2021 podcast series The Emancipation Equation focusing on the revolutionary potential of music. She has previously toured with Martin Hůla aka Bonus and their collaborative live mixtape Člověk Pokrokový. Her track Suché Lúky from the Liptov Punctum Tapes compilation was featured on The Wire magazine compilation.
As a sound designer, she collaborates with artists Eva Kot’áátková and Lucie Rosenfeldová or on Ivo Bystřičan’s podcast series Future Landscapes. In the theatre sphere, she has created music and performed in Nothing Else, Mothers by Anna Klimešová and Dominika Špalková, produced by ProFitArt, and has also collaborated with Spitfire Company and Miřenka Čechová and performed in Baletky. She created the sound design for Tereza Silon’s performance Good Gardens performed at Y Events.
